Five Generations of Craft

Roots in the American West

In 1855, Charles Crosby journeyed across the Oregon Trail at just eighteen years old. After seeking fortune in the California gold fields, he settled in Oregon, where his family would go on to cultivate a different kind of treasure—hops.

The Birth of Crosby Hops

By 1900, Charles’ son, Albert Crosby, saw the potential in hops, known then as “green gold.” He planted the first Crosby hops outside Woodburn, Oregon—on land that still produces hops today.

Generations of Hop Farming Innovation

Albert’s son, Edgar, continued the family’s hop-growing tradition into the early 20th century. In the 1940s, Edgar Jr. and his brother Don modernized the farm with its first mechanical hop picker, ensuring Crosby Hops remained competitive.

Navigating Challenges, Preserving Legacy

In the 1970s, Kevin Crosby took the helm, guiding the family business through a period of market instability and industry consolidation. His perseverance ensured Crosby Hops survived for future generations.

A Bold New Vision

In 2012, fifth-generation Blake Crosby transformed the business through vertical integration, evolving Crosby Hops into a fully integrated grower, processor, and merchant. He established an on-farm pellet facility to ensure all hops meet the highest standards of quality, consistency, and craftsmanship for brewers worldwide.

A Global Leader in Hops

Today, Crosby Hops farms over 750 acres of Estate Grown hops and partners with independent growers worldwide, offering brewers an unparalleled selection of high-quality hops.
