The Willamette Valley is one of the few places in the world uniquely suited to producing high-quality aroma hops.
Long summer days, cool evenings, moderate temperatures, abundant winter rainfall, and fertile soils create ideal growing conditions for developing complex hop oils and balanced flavor expression. This unique combination of latitude, climate, and soil—our Oregon terroir—is reflected in every harvest.
Though Oregon represents fewer hop acres than neighboring Washington, it is recognized as the Aroma State, with more than 90% of its production dedicated to aroma varieties. For brewers, that means a region singularly focused on cultivating the expressive flavors and aromas that define modern craft beer.
While Crosby Hops represents premium hops from across the Pacific Northwest, Europe, New Zealand, and Australia, we take special pride in the varieties grown on our own farm.
Among the more than 18 hop varieties grown across our farm, our Estate Grown designation is reserved for select varieties that best showcase the character of our Oregon terroir and represent some of our most significant plantings and deepest farming expertise:
For brewers, Estate Grown means more than origin, it provides additional confidence, convenience, and access throughout the purchasing process. Estate Grown varieties receive priority processing and are available with no selection or contract minimums, giving breweries of all sizes an active role in sourcing the hops that define their beers.
Every hop we grow reflects more than a century of farming experience and a commitment to continuous improvement. From sustainable farming practices and advanced irrigation management to state-of-the-art processing and cold storage, we strive to preserve the quality and character of every cone from field to brewery.
For generations, both sides of our family—the Crosbys and the Smiths—have cultivated hops in Oregon's Willamette Valley. The Crosby Hop Farm was established near Woodburn in 1900, while the Smith family cultivated hops at the historic Horseshoe Hop Farm along the Willamette River near St. Paul.
That long connection to the land has shaped our philosophy of stewardship. We believe we do not own the land—we borrow it from future generations. Today, through Crosby Hops, we proudly steward both family farms and are committed to leaving them healthier and more productive for those who come after us.
This philosophy guides every decision we make, from soil health and water conservation to biodiversity and continuous improvement across our operations. Our commitment to responsible farming practices has earned certifications including Salmon-Safe and GlobalG.A.P., reflecting our dedication to protecting natural resources while growing exceptional hops.
